The Tutor

The first five books of the Bible are often the most attacked, neglected, vilified, criticized, and misunderstood pages of Scriptures. Within these writings of Moses there are over 600 laws—the meaning and relevancy of which can seem extremely difficult to comprehend. However, except for God’s moral laws, such as the Ten Commandments and all the ethical statutes that encompass these commands (like honesty and sexual morality), we are no longer bound by the hundreds of God’s civil or ceremonial laws (such as the dietary ordinances and the regulations surrounding circumcision or animal sacrifices).

Nevertheless, the principles of these decrees are still intact; and furthermore, the apostle Paul tells us that all these obsolete mandates were our “tutor” to lead us to Christ (see Galatians 3:21-29). Consequently, within the chapters of this book, John Hunt explains the significance of these outdated directives and how our ancient tutor (the law) still has much to teach us in terms of God and His Son Jesus Christ.
